Narda Pitkethly

Narda Pitkethly is a natural foodie. She has been involved in the Wood River Valley’s food system in multiple ways for more than 20 years. A loyal patron of local food wherever it is sold, Narda has been a producer, distributor, consumer and recoverer of food. She has supported The Hunger Coalition (THC) as a volunteer and gardener and helped out in community gardens including THC’s Hope Garden and Wood River Sustainability Center garden. In 2011, she started her own vermicomposting company, WormOn.net, to recover and repurpose valuable nutrients. Here’s what Narda said when asked about her personal relationship to food:

How did you become interested in food?
Seeing good food as essential to a good life, I began working and volunteering in the food industry on a variety of levels at 15 years old.

What’s your definition of “good food”?
Organic, grown locally, raised and killed humanely.

Who is your food hero?
Ali Long and Al McCord

What is your biggest wish for food system change?
To serve “good food” in all school levels: elementary, middle, high school and college

Soups

What’s your end goal or what impact do you hope to have in terms of food?
I feel strongly about my ability to educate people about vermicomposting, it all starts with good soil!
